Description:

BlueScope Construction (BSC) was the design-build general contractor for a new maintenance hangar and crew training facility. The new facility needed to attach to an existing facility without interrupting ongoing operations. The hangar portion of the structure was designed by BSC’s Heavy Structures group and was comprised of 18'-6" deep parallel chord trusses, deepening to 25' at the front of the building to accommodate loads from the sliding doors, exterior signage and windows above the doors. The structure had heavy seismic load requirements and new foundations required the new building’s roof beams to cantilever the 10' gap between the existing structure. BSC also renovated some of the existing facility and added a shops and offices area.
