Description:

BlueScope Construction was the design-build general contractor for an office and laboratory complex developed for genetic engineering of optimum yield grains. BlueScope Construction, DuPont, and the architect worked very closely from design conception to final completion. The architectural package called for a contemporary aesthetically appealing design due to the facility’s close proximity to the Living History Farms. The building interiors are designed specifically for needs of research and development with six fully equipped research laboratories which include such items as a full complement of medical gasses, fume hoods, and laboratory casework with custom epoxy resin tops. To support these laboratories, there are approximately 60 offices, 3 conference rooms, a lunchroom, mail room, telecommunications suite, men’s and women’s lockers, several specific research support rooms, as well as electrical and mechanical rooms. Other special requirements include clean rooms and extensive piping systems. The interior finish includes arches, curved walls and a centrally located rotunda. The exterior walls are masonry veneer with curtainwall at the entrance. The roof is ballasted membrane.
