Design-build tobacco processing facility. BlueScope Construction was the turnkey general contractor. The structural design combined conventional construction elements and pre-engineered building components to deliver the low-cost solution. The exterior is a mixture of metal wall system (warehouse area) and full-height insulated pre-cast exterior concrete walls. BSC’s roof solution combined two standing seam metal roof systems, both from BlueScope Building companies. The facility processes green leaf tobacco into processed, deveined, dried and baled tobacco. Over $60 million worth of processing equipment was installed including steam cylinders, threshing machines, apron dryers, and hydraulic packers. The entire complex is fully heated and humidified—including the warehouse area.
